#1250717: Facebook and Instagram Down in Global Outage
Users worldwide are reporting that they are unable to access both Facebook and Instagram. When attempting to do so, they are given errors or maintenance messages stating that the services are aware of the problem and are working on restoring access.
This outage started within the last hour and according to the site outage.report it is affecting users all over the world including in the USA, Europe, and Asia.
When users attempt to use Facebook or Instagram they are reporting seeing images stating "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can do."
Other users are seeing maintenance messages from Facebook stating that "Facebook will be back soon" and that the site "is down for requirement maintenance".
It is not known if this is a planned outage, a problem with their servers, or if the service is under attack.
Facebook gave the following statement to BleepingComputer regarding this outage. Based on the statement, this does not appear to be a planned maintenance.
"We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.” - Facebook Spokesperson

1:30 PM EST: Updated story with statement from Facebook.
3:03 PM EST: Facebook tweeted that this outage was not due to a DDoS attack.
7:43 PM EST: We were previously told that NETSCOUT felt a BGP routing issue was the cause of this outage. We are now being told that this BGP Routing issues was not related to the outage.
