#1673140: AI Security & Governance - Are you safe out there?

Description: Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue—it’s a full-fledged criminal enterprise. Hackers operate like businesses, complete with PR teams, branded operations, and even customer service. So how can AI, particularly Microsoft Copilot, help organisations strengthen security and compliance without becoming a drain on time and resources?

In this iTnews webinar, AI Security and Governance: Are You Safe Out There?, Justin Melton, CEO of Chill IT, and Andrew O’Young from Dicker Data share key insights on the evolving threat landscape and best practices for organisations navigating AI security challenges.

-Justin highlights that we’re facing an unprecedented level of cyber risk, with AI empowering both attackers and defenders. He notes that breaches are affecting businesses of all sizes and industries, particularly education, healthcare, and government.

“Cybercrime is now a marketplace. Attackers have brand names, marketing strategies, and even press releases,” he explains. He stresses the importance of governance, urging organisations to take ownership of security frameworks rather than delegating them to IT alone. “Leadership needs to be engaged—governance is about managing risk, protecting data, and maintaining trust.”

-Andrew builds on this, emphasising that identity remains the weakest link in cybersecurity. “AI doesn’t introduce new risks—it accelerates existing ones,” he says. He points to the necessity of strong identity management, zero-trust principles, and rigorous data retention policies. “Many breaches stem from a single compromised account, leading to lateral access of sensitive information,” he warns. He also underscores the need for proactive planning: “Hope is not a strategy. Organisations need a clear incident response plan to minimise damage and recovery time.”

The discussion makes it clear: security, compliance, and governance are not optional—they are critical to business resilience. Organisations must simplify their policies, educate staff, and implement a robust response plan to mitigate threats effectively.
